Inner Opus is the home of the writing, scholarship, and curated journeys of Mansoor H. Abidi. Through books, teaching, and encounters with places of historical and spiritual significance, it explores the enduring relationship among psyche, imagination, transformation, and the sacred.
At the heart of this work is a conviction that symbols are not merely remnants of the past or inventions of the private mind. They are living forms through which human beings encounter depths of meaning that may exceed ordinary consciousness. Inner Opus seeks to approach these inheritances with intellectual discernment, historical care, and openness to their transformative power.
Mansoor H. Abidi, Ph.D.
Mansoor H. Abidi is an author, educator, and scholar whose work brings depth psychology into conversation with Hermeticism, alchemy, Neoplatonism, Islamic metaphysics and mysticism, the philosophy of the imaginal, and perennial philosophy. He holds a Ph.D. in Depth Psychology from Pacifica Graduate Institute, where he teaches courses exploring alchemical symbolism, myth, creativity, vocation, and the transformative life of the soul.
Before entering depth psychology, Abidi studied biochemistry and comparative religion and spent many years working with precious metals in New York City’s jewelry district. His experience with fire assay brought him into direct contact with furnaces, metals, mineral substances, and the exacting operations through which matter is separated, tested, and refined. This material encounter continues to shape his understanding of alchemy as both an embodied art and a language of psychological and spiritual transformation.
He is the author of The Alchemist Within: Creativity, Vocation, and Transformation and the forthcoming Hermeticism and the Alchemical Imagination: From Ancient Cosmology to the Making of a Hermetic Psychology. He is also the founder of Inner Opus and Inner Opus Press.
At the center of his current scholarship is the development of Hermetic Psychology—a contemporary, imaginal, and cosmological orientation that understands psyche in living relation to matter, symbol, nature, history, and the sacred. Through teaching, writing, publishing, public lectures, and sacred journeys in Italy and Egypt, his work explores how ancient traditions may speak meaningfully to contemporary life while retaining their historical and spiritual integrity.
